What Is Kirkland Sleep Aid?
Kirkland Sleep Aid is a mild-to-moderate sleeping tablet, sold over the counter without prescription. The active ingredient in Kirkland Sleep Aid is ‘doxylamine succinate‘, an antihistamine. It is a substance used to treat allergies but also works to induce sleep and help people stay asleep. In fact, doxylamine works more effectively to help those with insomnia than those suffering from allergies.
What to Expect
Take just one pill – no more – and within 30 minutes, you should begin to feel drowsy, heavy eye lids, ready for bed.
Kirkland Signature Sleep Aid
Insomnia and sleep problems can be cause by a number of things, including stress and worry, poor health, smoking, drinking too much alcohol or caffeine, and more. Kirkland Sleep Aid (and other sleeping pills) are a supplement, helping you sleep, but will not fix any underlying ailments, or conditions. If your sleeplessness continues for more than 2 weeks, consider other approaches to treating your insomnia. Speak to your doctor.
Sleep apnea is a very common, and sometimes rather serious, condition where your breathing is temporarily interrupted when you’re asleep.
There are treatments for apnea, but – as far as we’ve seen, at least – they tend to involve sticking plastic things to your face. We understand the reasons for these devices, but seriously, why would my sleep be better with a plastic widget stuck to my face, forcibly pushing open my nostrils?
Aside from various facial devices, the general recommendations for treating apnea are all fairly lame – sleep on your side and prop your head up (when I’m asleep, I have no idea which way I’m sleeping!). Other than that, the recommendations are all the things you’ve heard before… stop smoking, no alcohol, no coffee, lose weight, exercise more, eat sensibly.
Sleeping pills are not a recommended treatment for sleep apnea, as most apnea sufferers do not have problems falling asleep.
Precautions & Side Effects
As with all sleeping aids, you must take care not to take more than recommended, or to mix these pills with other substances. Take just one tablet – no more – roughly 3 minutes before you go to bed. Avoid alcohol when taking Sleep Aid or any other sleeping pills. Read more about general precautions of taking sleeping pills here.
The side effects of Kirkland Sleep Aid are, in the majority of cases, mild and minimal. Some of the more severely effected have reported headaches, constipation, upset stomach, and blurred vision, although these effects are very rare.
Those with breathing problems (asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis), those suffering Glaucoma and those who experience trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland should consult their doctor before taking any medication, including sleeping pills.
If your sleeplessness persists continuously for more than two weeks, stop using Sleep Aid and speak with your doctor. Insomnia may be a symptom of serious underlying medical illness.
If you are pregnant or breast feeding, speak to your doctor before taking Kirkland Sleep Aid.
Do not give these tablets to children. Kirkland Sleep Aid is not suitable for children, or anyone aged 12 or under. Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.
